The Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is Victoria’s independent environmental regulator. EPA works to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of pollution and waste on Victorians and their environment, collaborating with community, government, and industry to achieve its objectives. Over the past five years, EPA has undergone significant transformation with the Environment Protection Act 2017 coming into effect on July 1, 2021. As the needs of Victorians evolve, EPA adapts and responds to various factors, embracing new ways of working and celebrating diversity of people and lifestyles. The organisation offers a range of practical support options for both work and personal life, fostering an inclusive culture where employees can make a meaningful impact on protecting Victoria's environment and public health.

Reporting directly to the CEO and as a key member of the Senior Executive Committee, the Executive Director, Strategy will lead a critical division that sets regulatory direction, shapes policy, and provides strategic advice at the highest levels of government. The role requires proven executive-level leadership and the ability to bring strategic coherence across a diverse portfolio.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Providing authoritative advice on regulatory policy, strategic direction, and government priorities.
  • Strengthening EPA’s role in permissions and infrastructure development, ensuring readiness for future demand.
  • Leading a division encompassing policy, permissions, development and infrastructure advisory, First Nations relationships, and data and insights.
  • Shaping a divisional strategy that delivers unity across streams and drives organisational capability uplift.
  • Building trusted partnerships with government, industry, community, and Traditional Owners.
  • Representing EPA as a visible, credible leader at the state and national levels.

To be successful in this role you will be a proven senior executive with significant experience in regulatory policy, government engagement, and organisational leadership. You will bring:

  • Depth of expertise in policy development and regulatory strategy.
  • A strong record of delivering impact across complex, multi-stream portfolios.
  • Experience engaging effectively with senior government stakeholders.
  • The ability to lead through complexity and deliver clarity of direction.
  • A collaborative, high-performing leadership style that inspires excellence.
