Energy and Water Ombudsman

CEO & General Management

  • Lead Queensland's independent Energy & Water Ombudsman
  • Shape fair outcomes for thousands of Queensland consumers
  • Build on a respected legacy and shape the future of EWOQ

Energy and Water Ombudsman Queensland (EWOQ) is an independent statutory authority established under the Energy and Water Ombudsman Act 2006. Providing a free, impartial and accessible dispute resolution service, EWOQ helps resolve complaints between consumers and energy and water providers while strengthening confidence in essential services across Queensland.

Employing approximately 50 people across Brisbane, Rockhampton and Cairns, EWOQ plays a vital role in ensuring fair outcomes for consumers while maintaining confidence in an increasingly complex and evolving energy and water market. Supported by an independent Advisory Council, the organisation is recognised for its integrity, independence and commitment to public value.

Reporting to the Minister for Energy and Minister for Local Government and Water through established statutory governance arrangements, the Energy and Water Ombudsman provides strategic leadership across all aspects of the organisation. You will lead organisational strategy, governance, financial stewardship, operational performance and stakeholder engagement while safeguarding the independence and integrity of the Ombudsman's office.

Working collaboratively with government, industry, consumer representatives and the Advisory Council, you will strengthen organisational capability, enhance community awareness, identify emerging systemic issues and ensure the delivery of fair, timely and independent dispute resolution services for Queenslanders. This is a rare executive leadership opportunity to build on a respected legacy while shaping the future direction of one of Queensland's most important consumer protection organisations. As the energy market continues to evolve through new technologies, changing consumer expectations and increasing regulatory complexity, you will play a pivotal role in leading the organisation through its next chapter.

To be considered for this role, you are an accomplished executive leader with a proven track record of leading complex organisations and delivering exceptional organisational performance. You bring significant experience in dispute resolution, complaints management, regulatory or customer advocacy environments, together with highly developed leadership, governance and stakeholder engagement capability.

You are recognised for your sound judgement, strategic thinking and ability to build trusted relationships across government, industry and the community. While experience within the energy or water sectors will be highly regarded, we welcome applications from executives with significant dispute resolution, complaints management or customer advocacy leadership experience gained in other complex, highly regulated environments.

Your ability to inspire high-performing teams, navigate complexity with integrity and lead an independent statutory authority through a changing operating environment will position you for success in this exceptional executive appointment.
