  • Join Victoria’s independent environmental regulator
  • Lead strategic advisory and governance support at the centre of government
  • Newly created SES1 role – $225,000–$290,600 including super

The Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is Victoria’s independent environmental regulator. EPA works to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of pollution and waste on Victorians and their environment, collaborating with community, government, and industry to achieve its objectives. Over the past five years, EPA has undergone significant transformation with the Environment Protection Act 2017 coming into effect on July 1, 2021. As the needs of Victorians evolve, EPA adapts and responds to various factors, embracing new ways of working and celebrating diversity of people and lifestyles. The organisation offers a range of practical support options for both work and personal life, fostering an inclusive culture where employees can make a meaningful impact on protecting Victoria's environment and public health.

This newly established role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to shape a new function at the heart of EPA’s governance and strategic leadership. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Office of the CEO, will play a pivotal role in managing EPA’s authorising environment and delivering high-quality strategic and operational advice. The role leads a high-performing team responsible for preparing Ministerial briefings, engaging directly with the Minister’s Office, supporting Board and Executive Leadership functions, and overseeing secretariat services and governance support. In an increasingly complex government environment, the successful candidate will establish new ways of working and build the frameworks that will ensure the office’s success well into the future.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will be a seasoned and values-driven executive who has held senior advisory roles within central government or has served as a Head of Office, Principal Advisor, or Departmental Executive. You bring sophisticated knowledge of the machinery of government and parliamentary processes, and can build trusted, long-term relationships across all levels of government. Your written communication is sharp and purposeful, and you take pride in delivering briefings and advice that are both clear and impactful. Most importantly, you lead with influence and integrity, and are energised by collaboration, engagement, and delivering outcomes that matter for Victorians.
