Hobsons Bay City Council is a progressive and community-focused organisation located in Melbourne’s vibrant west, offering the opportunity to make a genuine impact where it matters most. Hobsons Bay City Council is committed to creating a workplace that reflects the community and values. You’ll be part of a forward-thinking organisation that supports innovation, collaboration, and professional growth, and which aspires to be the exemplar of Local Government.

About the role:

Reporting directly to the CEO and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director Infrastructure & City Services leads a diverse, multi-disciplinary portfolio spanning infrastructure, city services, assets and community facilities. The role has end-to-end accountability for the planning and delivery of capital works, city operations and asset management, ensuring projects and services are delivered efficiently, safely and with strong financial discipline. Operating in a complex and evolving environment, the Director will lead through change, navigate enterprise agreements and work closely with Councillors, the community, unions and government stakeholders. A key focus is ensuring risks are well understood and effectively managed, while maintaining momentum across multiple priorities.

This role plays a critical role in providing stability while driving the delivery of a large and complex capital works program. This position offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide outcomes, keep the organisation grounded in delivery, and make a tangible impact on the community through high-quality, sustainable services and programs. The role will also lead several significant projects for Council, including the Williamstown Lifesaving Club redevelopment, Wetlands Centre redevelopment and the renewal of major aquatic facilities.

What you’ll need:

To succeed, you will be a resilient executive leader with a proven ability to deliver outcomes and lead high-performing teams through complexity. You bring strong leadership capability, experience working across disciplines and the ability to contribute to broader organisational performance. Your background includes delivering large-scale capital and infrastructure programs, with a sharp focus on outcomes, risk management and continuous improvement. You are confident navigating ambiguity and organisational change, bringing sound judgement, political awareness and a practical mindset that balances strategy with delivery.

This is a rare opportunity to join one of Melbourne’s largest and fastest growing municipalities in this executive leadership position.
