The Australian Energy Council (AEC) is the peak industry body representing Australia’s leading energy retailers and generators operating in competitive markets. Representing organisations that supply energy to more than 10 million homes and businesses, the AEC advocates for a reliable, affordable and sustainable energy future, supporting the transition to a decarbonised energy system through significant investment in renewable energy, storage and firming technologies.
Reporting to General Manager Retail Policy, the Director Consumer Energy Resources (CER) Strategy is a strategically important role responsible for shaping and advancing the Australian Energy Council’s position on the future of consumer energy resources. Working at the intersection of policy, regulation, customer engagement and market transformation, this role will lead the development of a retailer-led CER strategy that supports positive outcomes for customers, industry and the broader energy system. The role will engage closely with members, governments, regulators and industry stakeholders to influence policy, build support for reform and strengthen the role of retailers in Australia's energy transition. Combining strategic thinking, advocacy and stakeholder engagement, the Director will help shape national discussions on consumer participation, energy system resilience and the evolving role of distributed energy resources.
To be successful in this role, you will bring experience in energy policy, regulation, market analysis, stakeholder engagement or a related field, together with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities shaping Australia's energy transition. You will be comfortable navigating complex policy and regulatory environments, developing strategic positions and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to influence outcomes. With strong communication skills and sound judgement, you will be able to translate complex issues into clear and practical messages for diverse audiences. You will be collaborative, commercially aware and capable of building consensus across competing perspectives, while maintaining a focus on achieving meaningful outcomes for customers, industry and the energy system. Most importantly, you will be motivated by the opportunity to play a leading role in shaping the future of consumer energy resources in Australia.
