- Lead essential services in Australia’s fastest growing city
- Executive influence across assets, waste, and operations
- Shape infrastructure strategy aligned to Wyndham’s 2050 Vision
Located just 30 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, Wyndham is Australia’s fastest-growing municipality. Home to more than 342,000 residents today and projected to exceed 500,000 by 2040, Wyndham is undergoing transformative growth through large-scale development and nationally recognised projects. This rapid change presents both challenge and opportunity, and Council is seeking an exceptional executive to lead one of its most significant portfolios at a defining time in the City’s evolution.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director City Operations is responsible for the strategic direction, planning and delivery of essential infrastructure, assets and regulatory services that underpin liveability and wellbeing across the municipality. You will provide high-quality strategic advice to the CEO and Councillors, and act as a trusted advocate for Wyndham City Council with government, industry and community stakeholders.
The City Operations portfolio brings together the planning, delivery and stewardship of Wyndham’s essential infrastructure. It spans the management of parks and open space, building design and facilities, engineering and road networks, and the full lifecycle of Council’s assets. The role also leads the oversight of waste management and landfill operations. Collectively, this portfolio shapes the quality, safety and functionality of the city, delivering the services residents rely on every day.
Wyndham’s direction is shaped by the Wyndham 2050 Community Vision, which aspires to a thriving, inclusive and connected city that values First Nations culture, wellbeing, innovation and environmental stewardship. This long-term vision guides Council’s planning, investment and service delivery. This role extends well beyond operational oversight. It carries responsibility for leading best-practice asset management, strengthening statutory and compliance frameworks, driving integrated service planning and fostering a high-performance, community-focused culture. You will also build strong stakeholder partnerships and advocate for Wyndham’s priorities at State and Federal levels.
To be successful, you will be a strategic thinker and visible leader who thrives in complex, growth-oriented environments. You will bring senior executive experience leading large multidisciplinary teams, with significant expertise in infrastructure and asset management ideally gained in metropolitan or growth municipalities. Commercial acumen, strong governance capability and demonstrable experience managing substantial budgets and resources are essential. You will have the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation across planning, building, civil engineering, environmental health and waste functions.
Your leadership style will be a key differentiator. You are known for inspiring high performance, fostering collaboration, developing capability in others, and building cohesive teams that deliver outstanding outcomes. You will champion occupational health and safety, sound risk management, and community value in everything you do.
This is a rare executive opportunity to shape the infrastructure, amenity and liveability of one of Victoria’s most dynamic and future-focused cities. If you are driven by delivering tangible community outcomes and leading through complexity and growth, this role offers a profound platform for impact.
