Deputy Under Treasurer Finance and Investment – QLD Treasury

Government & Defence

  • Shape Queensland’s economic future in a role with state-wide impact
  • Deliver transformational outcomes and leave a legacy
  • Lead strategic financial, investment, and economic policy initiatives

Queensland is in an exciting time in its history and is looking towards the future. With a refreshed structure, Queensland Treasury is seeking an exceptional executive to take on one of the most influential roles in the state. As Deputy Under Treasurer, Finance and Investment, you will sit at the centre of government decision-making — driving reform, leading investment strategies, and ensuring fiscal discipline that underpins Queensland’s long-term prosperity.

As a member of Treasury’s Executive Leadership Team, this role reports directly to the Under Treasurer and has a dual Ministerial line, requiring you to provide expert advice and analysis that influences critical decision-making, optimises investment outcomes, and stewards the state’s fiscal and economic strategies. Ultimately, your leadership will drive outcomes aligned with the Queensland Treasury Strategic Plan 2025–2029, supporting government priorities to grow the economy and stimulate jobs, deliver fiscal sustainability, and influence public sector reform.

You will lead major programs of work that advance Queensland’s policy priorities and strengthen public value delivery across pivotal portfolios, including:

  • Facilitate effective oversight of Government Owned Corporations (GOCs) to ensure they deliver maximum value to the people of Queensland.
  • Leading programs across major agencies to embed responsible expenditure and deliver whole-of-government savings.
  • Overseeing the state’s investment functions, identifying opportunities that stimulate jobs, attract private sector capital, and strengthen Queensland’s global competitiveness.

The role will also see you represent Treasury in complex negotiations and consultations, demonstrating professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to achieving optimal outcomes. You will provide strategic oversight of significant commercial transactions and infrastructure projects of economic importance to Queensland.

About you:

To succeed in this role, you will need expert stakeholder management skills and the ability to navigate a complex political environment while engaging with a broad range of internal and external parties. You will bring high-level strategic, commercial, analytical and creative capabilities, and an understanding of the political, social, economic and commercial environment to make informed, sound judgements across multiple industries. You will also have proven leadership abilities, with expertise in managing and motivating high-performing teams.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a results-focused mindset and the capability to lead the delivery of challenging projects within a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment. You will have significant experience at senior management level in private and/or public sector business environments and be able to demonstrate expertise in delivering large and complex investment and commercial projects. We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds. Most importantly, we are seeking an exceptional leader with a proven track record of guiding teams to deliver fiscal outcomes in large, complex organisations where collaboration and innovation thrive. You will bring the gravitas and judgement to provide advice at the highest levels of government and represent Queensland Treasury with authority and influence.

This is a career-defining opportunity for a visionary leader to play a central role in Queensland’s economic future. Whether it’s guiding reform across GOCs, driving efficiencies across government, or steering investment that delivers transformational outcomes, your work will leave a lasting legacy for the state.
