About the Company

Davidson Technology are working with a large State Government Department to secure an experienced Cyber Security Officer who will contribute to safeguarding the department from security intrusions, threats and weaknesses.

About the Role

As a seasoned Cyber Security Officer (Governance), you’ll be responsible for safeguarding the department from cyber security intrusions, threats, weaknesses, and exploits by providing effective operational and governance-focused security support. You will deliver day-to-day administration, monitoring, and tuning of Microsoft Defender technologies—including Defender for Endpoint, Office 365, Identity, and Cloud Apps—while ensuring alignment with approved standards, baselines, and government cyber security guidance. You’ll monitor, triage, and investigate security alerts and incidents such as phishing, malware, and suspicious activity, support threat hunting and vulnerability management, and work collaboratively with ICT teams to coordinate remediation and verify outcomes. You will also contribute to incident response activities, prepare clear technical documentation and reports, support the development of BAU procedures and playbooks, provide operational advice to stakeholders, and ensure service requests are resolved within agreed timeframes while maintaining strong customer service, compliance, and continuous professional currency in cyber security practices.

About You

To be successful in this role, you’ll demonstrate proven expertise in supporting the effective delivery of information security services within large public sector and government environments. You will offer strong hands-on experience across virtualisation platforms, identity and access management, enterprise operating systems, SIEM and SOAR solutions, intrusion prevention systems, application firewalls, server and endpoint protection, and email security, alongside the practical application of recognised security frameworks such as ISO 27001 and the ACSC Essential Eight. You’ll bring outstanding written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective engagement with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and consistently meet mandatory requirements through demonstrated operational capability, sound governance practices, and readiness to commence duties within required timeframes.

The Benefits

You will be offered a 12-month contract (possible extension) on an excellent hourly rate and the ability to negotiate a flexible working arrangement for the duration of the assignment.
