About the Company

Davidson is proud to be partnering with Barwon Water in the search for an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join their Digital Business Group.

Barwon Water plays a critical role in supporting the health, liveability and prosperity of the region. As the organisation continues to evolve from a traditional water utility to a broader leader in regional prosperity, digital capability, cyber resilience and responsible technology adoption are central to its future.

About the Role

This role is ideal for a senior cyber security professional who enjoys operating at the intersection of technical depth, risk, architecture, security operations and stakeholder advisory. You will provide expert guidance across Microsoft security platforms including Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel, while supporting secure adoption of AI-enabled services such as Microsoft Copilot. The role combines cyber security assurance, advisory and technical leadership responsibilities, including implementing and maturing SIEM and SOC capabilities, recommending and implementing security controls, and strengthening Barwon Water's cyber security monitoring and incident response capabilities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the implementation, optimisation and ongoing maturity of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) capabilities, with a strong focus on Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Contribute to the establishment and enhancement of Security Operations Centre (SOC) capabilities, including operating models, monitoring use cases, incident workflows and detection strategies.
  • Design, configure and maintain security monitoring, alerting and detection capabilities to improve visibility and response across the enterprise environment.
  • Recommend, define and implement pragmatic security controls, standards and guardrails aligned to Barwon Water's cyber security framework, risk appetite and regulatory obligations.
  • Develop and tune SIEM use cases, correlation rules, analytics, dashboards and reporting to support threat detection, incident response and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to uplift cyber security monitoring, threat detection, incident management and operational resilience capabilities.

About You

  • Senior-level cyber security experience, ideally in a regulated or critical infrastructure environment.
  • Strong expertise across Microsoft security platforms such as Purview, Defender, Sentinel and related services.
  • Experience with cloud security controls, particularly within Azure environments.
  • A strong understanding of identity, access, logging, monitoring, data protection and workload security.
  • Experience translating risk and regulatory obligations into practical security controls.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as NIST CSF, ASD Essential Eight, SOCI and/or VPDSS.
  • The ability to influence stakeholders and drive outcomes through expertise rather than formal authority.

Desirable:

  • Operational Technology (OT) security experience
  • Internet-of-things (IoT) experience

The Benefits

  • Permanent position with ability to take full ownership
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
  • Collaborative and supportive culture
