Reporting to the Manager Operations & Waste, this role is responsible for leading the efficient and community-focused delivery of waste operations, litter prevention and resource recovery services across Darebin. It involves developing service plans, ensuring alignment with Council targets, managing staff and contractors, and analysing operations for cost-effectiveness and timely delivery. The position also focuses on building a high-performing team and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including the Environment Protection Act, to minimise risk and maintain service excellence. You will be a trusted advisor across the organisation, delivering high quality services that put the community at the heart of everything Darebin does.

To be considered for this role, you will bring demonstrated leadership and management experience in overseeing waste services, resource recovery centres, and litter prevention operations. They will have a proven track record in driving change, fostering cultural transformation, and leading innovation at an organisational or functional level. Strong people management capabilities are essential, including the ability to support staff development, resolve conflicts, model appropriate behaviours, and align recruitment with the organisation’s values and goals. The role requires extensive experience in managing complex service delivery programs under significant resource pressures and public expectations. Additionally, the candidate must possess strong financial management, strategic planning, and advocacy skills, along with a clear commitment to delivering services with a customer-first approach.
