Reporting to the Manager Investment Attraction & Advocacy, this role is responsible for implementing the Advocacy Strategy and annual workplan, strengthening government and stakeholder relationships, and securing investment aligned to Council priorities. Operating at the intersection of policy, politics and communications, the Coordinator oversees government relations, community engagement and media functions, prepares high-quality briefs and submissions, represents Council in regional and intergovernmental forums, and leads a specialist team to deliver clear, consistent and strategically aligned communications. The position also monitors legislative and funding developments, manages politically sensitive matters and establishes evaluation frameworks to measure advocacy impact.
To be successful in the role, you are an experienced advocacy, policy or communications professional with strong government relations capability and a sound understanding of public policy and funding environments. You bring demonstrated experience preparing compelling advocacy materials, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to translate complex issues into persuasive narratives. With strong strategic thinking, political acumen and stakeholder engagement expertise, you can build trusted relationships, lead engagement processes that generate public support, and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Experience supervising staff and relevant tertiary qualifications will support success in this role.
