About the Company

Davidson Technology are working with a leading Queensland Government client to secure an experienced Cloud Security Specialist to support the security, expansion and ongoing development of a major enterprise data platform.

Our client operates within a large, complex technology environment, delivering critical data, analytics and digital services. The organisation is undertaking a significant cloud and data transformation initiative, with a strong focus on securing sensitive information and establishing robust, scalable security controls.

About the Role

As the Cloud Security Specialist, you will lead the design, implementation and assurance of security controls across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric and associated enterprise data and analytics services.

This is a hands-on technical role combining cloud security architecture, identity and access management (IAM), data security and security assurance, supporting the secure transition of an enterprise data platform into production.

You will design and implement security architecture, access governance frameworks and role-based access controls (RBAC), ensuring appropriate access to sensitive information across cloud platforms, applications and data services.

A key focus will be implementing security controls across Microsoft Entra ID, Azure RBAC, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Microsoft Fabric, Power BI and Azure data services, including privileged access, identity governance and fine-grained data permissions.

You will also establish data protection controls, including encryption, data classification, access monitoring and secure integration practices, while supporting security assessments, risk remediation and audit readiness.

Working closely with cyber security specialists, cloud engineers, solution architects, data governance teams and technology suppliers, you will ensure security controls are practical, effective and aligned with enterprise security requirements.

This is a contract opportunity with a leading Queensland Government client, offering flexible working arrangements, including working from home.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Cloud Security Architect, Azure Security Architect, Cyber Security Architect, Cloud Security Engineer or Security Specialist with demonstrated experience designing and implementing security controls within complex enterprise cloud environments.

You will bring:

  • Strong hands-on experience securing Microsoft Azure environments, including enterprise cloud and data platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure RBAC, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Conditional Access and identity governance.
  • Experience securing Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure SQL, SQL Server, data warehouses, lakehouses or Azure Data Lake Storage.
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust, least privilege, segregation of duties and role-based access control.
  • Practical experience implementing data security controls, including row-level, column-level and object-level security, encryption and data access governance.
  • Experience designing and implementing security architecture, access control models, security standards and technical security documentation.
  • Knowledge of cloud security assessments, threat and risk assessments, vulnerability management, remediation and security assurance.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), secure deployment practices and cloud security monitoring.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across security, engineering, architecture and data teams.

Experience with Microsoft Purview, Profisee, RStudio, dbt Cloud, PROTECTED information environments or Australian Government security frameworks, including the ISM and IRAP, will be highly regarded.

You will be a proactive, technically capable security professional who can operate independently, translate security requirements into practical solutions and contribute directly to the implementation of secure enterprise cloud platforms.

The Benefits

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a significant Queensland Government cloud and data transformation initiative, supporting the secure delivery of enterprise data and analytics capabilities.

You will work alongside experienced cyber security, cloud engineering and architecture professionals, gaining exposure to complex Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric and enterprise data security environments.

The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of security architecture and implementation activities, influence enterprise security practices and contribute to the protection of sensitive government information.

Flexible working arrangements are supported, including opportunities to work from home, promoting a healthy work-life balance.
