About the opportunity
We are seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Chief Risk & Internal Audit Officer to lead enterprise-wide risk and assurance at a pivotal time of transformation and growth. Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Corporate Services, this Senior Leadership role is central to strengthening Melbourne Water’s risk maturity and assurance capability. Key to your success will be your ability to provide enterprise-wide leadership across risk management and internal audit, ensuring the proactive identification, assessment and mitigation of strategic and emerging risks. You ensure optimisation of the risk and audit function, embedding a contemporary, integrated assurance model and delivering a forward-looking, risk-based Internal Audit Plan aligned to organisational priorities. Accountable for the design and execution of a robust enterprise risk framework, you will oversee critical assurance activities spanning regulatory compliance, business resilience, enterprise security and emergency management, while delivering high-quality insights to the Executive, Board and Committees.
About You
You are a highly accomplished enterprise risk leader with a proven track record operating in complex, regulated environments, bringing deep expertise across Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit, including the effective application of the Three Lines of Defence model. You have successfully led enterprise-wide risk transformation and uplift initiatives, and possess strong experience designing and delivering multi-year, risk-based Internal Audit programs aligned to strategic priorities. Commercially astute, you balance risk and opportunity to enable informed decision-making and sustainable outcomes. Highly regarded for exceptional stakeholder engagement capability, able to build credibility and influence at Executive and Board level. An enterprise-minded leader, you foster collaboration and accountability, empowering leaders across the organisation to own and manage risk. Pragmatic and insight-driven, you apply critical thinking and constructive challenge to enhance performance, underpinned by relevant tertiary qualifications and a strong foundation in governance, risk and assurance practices.
