Chief Operating Officer - Metro North Health

Government & Defence

  • Lead operational and clinical excellence
  • Drive strategic performance and innovation
  • Inspire and empower high-performing teams

Metro North Health (MNH) is the largest hospital and health service in Queensland, providing world-class care to more than one million people across Brisbane’s northside and surrounding regions. As part of Queensland Health, MNH delivers a full suite of services, from community and preventative care to tertiary and quaternary hospital services, through major hospitals including Royal Brisbane and Women’s, The Prince Charles, and Redcliffe Hospitals. With a workforce of over 22,000, MNH is committed to excellence in clinical care, research, and innovation, driving better health outcomes and setting the benchmark for public health service delivery in Australia.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) plays a pivotal role in leading clinical engagement across facilities and professional groups, fostering collaboration, and championing best practice and service integration. You will drive performance and continuous improvement in both clinical care and business operations, with a strong focus on the Queensland Government commitments including reducing ambulance ramping and stabilising the elective surgery waitlist and direct alignment with MNH’s strategic goals, values, and commitment to health equity.

As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will help shape the future of healthcare delivery in Queensland, working across a complex health environment with significant responsibility and delegated authority.

You are a visionary and trusted executive leader with the ability to communicate a compelling purpose, inspire large teams, and drive strategic outcomes in complex environments. You demonstrate integrity, build trust, and lead with transparency, empowering others to perform at their best. With strong organisational and negotiation skills, you manage competing priorities, allocate resources effectively, and deliver results across a wide range of services.

Your political acumen enables you to navigate complex systems and foster collaboration among internal and external stakeholders. You are future-oriented, with a strong ability to anticipate trends, manage innovation, and develop strategies that position the organisation for long-term success. You create an environment where creative ideas thrive and are brought to market effectively. A postgraduate qualification in management or a clinical field is highly regarded, along with membership in a relevant professional association, underscoring your professional commitment and capability to lead at the highest level.

This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact at a system-wide level and help lead one of Australia’s most progressive public health services into its next chapter
