The Clean Energy Council is the peak body for renewable energy and energy storage in Australia. We represent the organisations that are building and delivering the country’s clean energy future, including major developers, infrastructure investors, long-term asset owners and operators, energy retailers, solar and battery manufacture r s, technology providers and professional service firms. Our members are united by a common goal of accelerating Australia's transition to clean, reliable and affordable energy , and we are recognised as the most credible and consistent voice of the clean energy industry. With the industry undergoing significant transformation, we are seeking a courageous and strategic leader to guide the organisation through a period of operational and cultural change, while championing Australia’s clean energy ambitions.

Reporting directly to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer will drive the next chapter of growth and evolution for the CEC. You will play a leading role in executing a B oard-led strategy for our members , reshaping the organisation, and positioning the CEC as a credible, trusted, and influential voice in the national energy conversation. You will lead the sector’s engagement with government, regulators, investors, industry and the broader community – with a strong focus on influencing energy policy and building enduring relationships across Canberra and the S tates. You will also serve as a prominent public representative of the sector, working with media and key forums to ensure the CEC’s voice is authoritative, informed and impactful. While strategy and external engagement will be your primary focus, you will set the tone for a values-led culture internally, working with a strong Executive Leadership Team to ensure high standards of operational delivery.

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced senior e xecutive with a proven track record of leading complex organisations in multi-stakeholder environments. Experience in industry associations , energy, infrastructure, or similarly regulated sectors is advantageous , and your leadership capability, strategic thinking and ability to influence diverse audiences will set you up for success in this role.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated success leading cultural and structural change in evolving organisations
  • Commercial acumen and experience navigating a defined financial environment
  • Political awareness and skill in building credibility with senior Government, media and industry stakeholders
  • The authenticity, courage and communication skills to inspire trust and lead during uncertainty
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to shape policy conversations, ask the right questions, and draw on expert resources
  • An understanding of governance and comfort operating at the highest levels of scrutiny

Please note the CEC head office is based in Melbourne . While we are open to interstate applications, there will be a considerable time requirement in Melbourne, as well as frequent travel to Canberra.
