The City of Stonnington is located in Melbourne’s inner south-east, alongside the Yarra River, covering an area of 25.63 square kilometres. Chapel Street is one of Melbourne's most diverse and iconic precincts. Stretching across 2.5 kilometres covering South Yarra, Prahran, and Windsor, its range of retail, dining, and entertainment options make it popular with locals and visitors.
In response to increasing community and business concerns about safety, cleanliness and economic vitality, the City of Stonnington have developed the Chapel Street Precinct Improvement Plan (CSPIP). Formally adopted in June 2025, the plan outlines how the City will work with partners and stakeholders to uplift the precinct. The Chapel Street Place Manager will coordinate delivery of these initiatives and be a point of contact for business.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chapel Street Place Manager will lead the implementation of the CSPIP One of the top priorities for the City, the CSPIP will support the area’s long-term transformation by delivering on projects and initiatives to achieve the plan’s five key priorities: visitation, safety, amenity, planning, and business support. Operating from the Office of the CEO, the Place Manager acts as a central and highly visible representative of Council, coordinating efforts across departments, businesses, government partners, and the local community, ensuring strong collaboration and partnership with a large and complex stakeholder base.
To be considered for this role, you will have significant experience in developing and delivering strategic, customer-focused initiatives within complex environments, with experience in the Local Government sector. You will bring strong project management and policy development skills with a proven capacity for solving complex problems with innovative, evidence-based solutions. You have advanced stakeholder engagement abilities with the ability to communicate across a vast range of stakeholder groups. You are confident in reporting and advising Councillors / Board and working across the political landscape to effectively deliver outcomes. Your leadership will be demonstrated through your ability to influence and drive outcomes in a matrixed environment. In addition, you will ideally have a deep understanding of Local Government frameworks, compliance requirements, and service improvement practices, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications.
