Business Development Manager – RMA Group

Sales

  • New business growth mandate across specialist vehicle engineering solutions
  • Greenfield role supporting strategic growth for the national busines
  • Salary circa $200k (incl super)

This organisation is a specialist vehicle engineering, modification and manufacturing business operating across the Australian automotive and fleet solutions market. They deliver tailored vehicle solutions for customers who require high standards of reliability, compliance, technical quality and commercial responsiveness.

With capability across vehicle customisation, fleet modification, engineered solutions and aftermarket programs, the business supports customers in sectors where fit-for-purpose vehicles are critical to operational performance. Backed by a broader international automotive group, this is a business with established capability and a clear appetite for growth

About the Role

Reporting to national senior leadership, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing and converting profitable new business opportunities across automotive, fleet and adjacent industrial markets. This is a true hunter role - this is not an account management role. You will be expected to proactively identify target new customers, initiate conversations, build relationships from cold contact, understand customer requirements and work with internal teams to shape commercially viable solutions.

The role will involve a blend of market development, customer engagement, technical solution selling, proposal development, tender support, commercial negotiation and pipeline management. You will work closely with internal stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, operations and leadership to ensure customer opportunities are properly scoped, priced and delivered. This is not an office-based role. You will operate in a roaming, field-based capacity, spending time with customers, attending relevant industry forums and working across multiple business locations as required.

About You

You are a proactive, self-directed business development professional with a strong track record of creating new opportunities in B2B markets. You are comfortable opening doors, building trust quickly and navigating complex sales cycles where the solution is not always off the shelf. You may come from automotive, fleet, vehicle modifications, aftermarket accessories, mining services, industrial equipment, technical manufacturing, commercial vehicles, defence-adjacent solutions, government fleet services or another engineered product/service environment.

We will be looking for:

  • Proven success in new business development, market creation or major account growth
  • Experience selling technical, customised or specification-led solutions
  • Strong commercial acumen across pricing, margin, qualification and negotiation
  • Confidence engaging with technical, operational, procurement and senior customer stakeholders
  • Ability to manage opportunities from prospecting through to proposal, quotation, tender and close
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • High levels of autonomy, resilience and self-management
  • Comfort operating in a field-based or multi-site role
  • A practical, solutions-focused style with the ability to work closely with internal delivery teams

Automotive or fleet sector experience will be highly regarded, but candidates from adjacent technical or industrial B2B markets will also be considered where there is strong evidence of self-directed sales capability and complex solution selling.

Please note that the BDM will be expected to travel – including interstate - on a regular basis.

This is a great opportunity to step into a senior growth role in a global business with an entrepreneurial spirit. For a commercially driven BDM who enjoys technical conversations, complex customer problems and the challenge of building new revenue streams, this role offers real scope to make an impact.
