Board Chair - Carers Victoria

  • Strengthen Carers Victoria’s voice, influence and impact for carers
  • Lead a highly capable Board with contemporary governance
  • Partner with an experienced CEO and influence key stakeholder

Carers Victoria is the statewide peak body for unpaid carers and a leading provider of support, advice and connection for people in care relationships. Established in 1992, the organisation has a proud history of advocating for carers and working to enhance the health and wellbeing of carers and the people they support. As an ACNC-registered charity, Carers Victoria plays a dual role: delivering practical assistance to carers while influencing government policy, raising awareness and ensuring the voices and experiences of carers inform decision-making. With strong financial foundations, an experienced leadership team and a highly capable Board, Carers Victoria is focused on strengthening its organisational capability, expanding its reach and continuing to increase its impact for carers.

Carers Victoria is seeking an accomplished and experienced Board Chair to lead its skills-based Board through its next chapter. Working in close partnership with the Chief Executive Officer and fellow Directors, the Chair will provide contemporary governance leadership, maintain a clear focus on strategy and ensure the Board operates effectively and efficiently within a highly regulated and government-funded environment. The Chair will foster constructive debate, draw on the diverse expertise around the Board table and ensure appropriate separation between governance and operations. They will also play an important ambassadorial role, working alongside the CEO to strengthen relationships and influence across Victorian and Federal Government, the community sector and other key stakeholders.

You will be an experienced Board Chair with substantial governance experience and a demonstrated ability to lead a capable Board through complexity. Personable, authentic and contemporary in your approach, you will know how to facilitate effective decision-making, manage different perspectives and build a strong and appropriately challenging partnership with an experienced CEO. You will ideally bring experience within a highly regulated, government-funded or care-related environment, with an understanding of care governance and strong government and stakeholder networks highly regarded. Experience navigating organisational transformation or significant change will also be valuable. A genuine understanding of carers and caring relationships is important, with personal lived experience of caring highly regarded. Above all, you will bring sound judgement, strong interpersonal capability and a commitment to ensuring the voices of carers remain central to Carers Victoria's future.
