Our client is a large, well-established organisation operating in a complex and highly regulated environment.
You will join an experienced finance team responsible for transactional banking and treasury operations, reconciliations and journals, external financial reporting, statutory and tax compliance, fixed asset accounting and maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and financial information.
The organisation has recently implemented a new ERP environment, creating an ongoing focus on process efficiency, data integrity and continuous improvement.
About the Role
This is an approximately 9-month temporary opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join the Financial Accounting team and provide support across a broad range of transactional, reporting and technical accounting activities.
Working alongside two Financial Accountants, you will play an important role in supporting day-to-day accounting activities and ensuring financial information is accurate, complete and delivered within required deadlines.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing daily cash reconciliations and investigating discrepancies between bank transactions, the general ledger and sub-ledgers.
- Preparing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and workpapers, including investigating and resolving reconciling items.
- Preparing and posting journals, including daily cash transactions and monthly accruals.
- Supporting cash flow forecasting and transactional banking activities.
- Assisting with internal and external financial reporting.
- Supporting statutory and tax compliance requirements, including BAS, PAYG, FBT and payroll tax activities.
- Assisting with internal and external audit requirements.
- Supporting fixed asset accounting, including asset stocktakes and capitalisations.
- Assisting with annual financial statements and supporting analysis.
- Investigating ledger discrepancies and responding to accounting queries from stakeholders.
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of finance policies and procedures.
- Supporting the broader finance team across changing priorities and key reporting periods.
About You
You are a capable and detail-oriented accounting professional with experience working in a medium to large organisation. You are comfortable working through reconciliations, investigating issues and managing multiple deadlines while keeping stakeholders informed.
You will ideally bring:
- 2-3+ years’ experience in an accounting role within a medium to large organisation.
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- CPA or CA qualification, or currently working towards one with solid practical accounting experience.
- Previous experience preparing bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and monthly journals.
- Experience using large finance ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, TechnologyOne, Pronto or similar.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate and resolve accounting queries.
- Good attention to detail and an analytical approach.
- The ability to work effectively to tight deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A collaborative approach to working with internal stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
