Moira Shire Council is an innovative and progressive local government organisation committed to serving the needs of communities across a large regional shire located on the Murray River, almost 3 hours north of Melbourne. Extending from the iconic Barmah Forest along the Murray River, the region includes four major towns - Cobram, Numurkah, Nathalia and Yarrawonga, one of Victoria’s most popular holiday destinations. Reporting to the Coordinator Finance, this role will deliver efficient and high-quality financial services. This includes responsibilities such as budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and providing financial analysis and insights. The role involves preparing both routine and ad hoc financial reports while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. It also includes maintaining the Council’s fixed asset register and ensuring timely and accurate data entry. The position works closely with budget owners to build financial understanding across the organisation and assists in developing business cases for capital projects. Additionally, the role collaborates with the assets team to value the Council’s property, infrastructure, plant, and equipment. A key part of the role is also to provide technical support and guidance to finance analysts, helping to build capability within the finance team.
To be successful in this role, you will be tertiary qualified in Accounting or Commerce with a major in accounting. A membership with a professional accounting body such as CPA or CA would be highly regarded. You will bring relevant experience in Local Government or a similar asset heavy industry, along with a strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, particularly those relating to fixed assets. Experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and asset or capital works accounting will be highly desirable.
