Davidson is partnering with a Federal Government department to recruit an experienced APS6 Program Officer for a 12-month contract based in Brisbane CBD.
This opportunity sits within a branch responsible for delivering significant Australian Government investment in sustainable agriculture and natural resource management. The broader program supports projects designed to improve agricultural productivity, build resilience and increase natural capital across Australia.
About the Role
Working with limited guidance, you will support the effective delivery and administration of nationally significant programs and projects. The position combines program and agreement management, stakeholder engagement, governance, reporting and executive-level advice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing milestone reports, variation requests and final reports, and providing recommendations to decision-makers in accordance with relevant policies.
- Managing agreements, including the assessment of project outputs, outcomes, annual reports and invoices.
- Managing payments and agreement variations through departmental financial systems.
- Engaging regularly with grantees, project partners, internal stakeholders and other government agencies.
- Maintaining program documentation, project trackers, operating procedures and records.
- Supporting governance, assurance, risk management and financial activities across the program.
- Preparing high-quality advice and correspondence for executive-level stakeholders and the Minister's Office, including submissions, briefings and Senate Estimates material.
- Reviewing program reporting data within monitoring and evaluation systems.
- Developing and reviewing communications materials, including presentations, talking points, website content, social media material and event collateral.
- Leading, managing and mentoring junior staff to support successful program outcomes.
- Undertaking occasional field work in remote and regional locations.
About You
You will be an experienced program professional who can confidently manage moderately complex work, exercise sound judgement and deliver high-quality outcomes with limited guidance.
To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Strong program, project or agreement management capability.
- Experience assessing reports, deliverables, variations and financial information against established policies and requirements.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise executive and ministerial-level advice.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and confidence working across internal and external stakeholder groups.
- Sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience supporting governance, assurance, risk and financial management activities.
- Leadership capability, including experience supporting or mentoring junior team members.
- An ability to engage confidently with subject matter relating to agriculture, science, engineering, geography, media and communications, or similar disciplines.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
