We are working with a state government client who is seeking an experienced Manager to lead safety outcomes across the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail program of works.

About the Role

As the senior safety lead within the project, you will ensure WHS and Rail Safety best practice is embedded in strategic and business planning, governance, and delivery. This role combines leadership of people and systems with a hands-on presence in the field, providing both assurance oversight and practical guidance to contractors and project teams.

  • Leadership & Management: Lead the WHS and Rail Safety function for the LGC Project, managing and mentoring up to three direct reports.
  • Strategic Safety Oversight: Drive implementation of WHS and Rail Safety processes and embed them into project planning, assurance, and governance structures.
  • Field Presence & Engagement: Provide visible leadership on worksites through safety walks, inspections, and engagement with contractors, supervisors, and workers.
  • Contractor Oversight: Maintain oversight of contractor safety assurance activities to ensure alignment with RIDO and the departments expectations.
  • Assurance & Reporting: Implement project safety assurance activities, verify compliance, and prepare/present regular reports for project and program leadership forums.
  • Risk & Incident Management: Lead project safety management activities, including risk assessments, safety observations, incident investigations, and corrective action planning.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive lessons learned processes, contribute to RIDO-wide policy development, and ensure industry and legislative changes are embedded across teams.

About you

  • You are an experienced safety leader with the ability to balance strategic oversight and field-based leadership, ensuring safe outcomes on complex, high-risk rail or infrastructure projects.
  • Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety, Business, or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, Rail Safety National Law, Codes of Practice, and AS/ISO standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership in WHS and Rail Safety on large rail (preferred) or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience in safety governance, assurance reporting, and contractor oversight.
  • Ability to influence at all levels – from frontline workers to senior executives.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to adapt to digital safety tools and reporting systems.


The Benefits

  • $96.23 per hour + Super (PAYG Agency Contractor)
  • Contract up to April 2026
  • Located in Brisbane CBD
  • Full-time hours, Monday to Friday
