Davidson is partnering with a large public sector organisation delivering complex planning and development activities across Queensland.


About the Role

We are seeking experienced Principal Planners (AO7) for contract opportunities. These senior-level roles will suit accomplished planning professionals who can provide high-level strategic and technical advice, lead complex planning work and confidently engage with senior stakeholders.

Depending on your background and expertise, you may be responsible for:

  • Leading and providing high-level advice on complex development assessments
  • Supporting planning and assessment activities associated with major renewable energy developments
  • Providing strategic planning advice relating to local planning instruments
  • Working collaboratively with local governments to support alignment with broader planning requirements
  • Interpreting complex planning legislation, policy and statutory frameworks
  • Leading complex projects and work programs from planning through to delivery
  • Identifying emerging issues, risks and strategic implications
  • Preparing and reviewing high-quality briefs, reports, recommendations and executive-level advice
  • Providing authoritative planning advice to internal and external stakeholders
  • Building productive relationships across government, local councils, proponents and other key stakeholders


About You

To be considered, you will have:

  • A tertiary degree in Planning – mandatory
  • Extensive experience across development assessment, statutory and/or strategic planning
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex and sensitive planning matters
  • Strong project leadership and delivery capability
  • Highly developed strategic thinking, analytical skills and professional judgement
  • The ability to provide authoritative advice on complex planning issues
  • Excellent written communication skills, including preparation of senior-level briefs and reports
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation and negotiation skills
  • The ability to operate autonomously and manage competing priorities in a complex environment

Experience within government planning, local government, major development, infrastructure or renewable energy environments will be highly regarded.
