Davidson is partnering with a state government client to recruit an experienced Senior Project Advisor (Program Controls) to support the successful delivery of a major program of infrastructure projects.


About the Role

As Senior Project Advisor (Program Controls), you will be embedded within project teams and play a critical role in reviewing, analysing, and reporting on major contractor progress while ensuring the consistent application of project and program controls across a large, complex suite of works.

Working as part of a high‑performing Program Controls team, you will contribute to cost control, schedule monitoring, budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting to support informed project decision‑making.

  • Guide and influence the development and continuous improvement of Program and Project Control practices, including cost control plans, schedule master plans and risk register maintenance.
  • Contribute to project budget management and cost control activities including budget creation, scheduling, change management, estimation, progress tracking, forecasting and earned value management.
  • Apply broad knowledge of project accounting and accrual collection methods.
  • Communicate project budgets and baselines clearly, and report discrepancies while ensuring accurate and timely end‑of‑month processes.
  • Provide insights to the Principal Advisor (Project Controls) and Project Directors regarding project advancement, risks, trend analysis and critical path insights.
  • Work closely with delivery teams to monitor deliverables and track physical completion metrics such as installed quantities.
  • Maintain comprehensive cash flow and commitment flow records across all project phases to support Earned Value and Forecast Curve development.
  • Establish and manage project expenses in alignment with client guidelines.
  • Prioritise, manage and deliver allocated tasks and activities with a focus on meeting deadlines within quality, cost and time parameters.
  • Promote a proactive, performance‑focused culture and actively participate in performance and improvement conversations.
  • This is an office-based role, with a requirement to attend the workplace at least three days per week.


About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring a combination of technical capability, analytical skill and strong communication suited to a dynamic project delivery environment. You will demonstrate:

Mandatory requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in project cost control, including conducting budget variance analysis and preparing high‑quality reports and graphical presentations for senior leadership.
  • Proven capability in monitoring project schedules and assessing program progress to support sound decision‑making.
  • More than three years' experience in project costing, analysis and reporting using advanced Excel tools and techniques.

Highly desirable

  • Extensive experience within a project controls function supporting infrastructure project delivery.
  • Practical experience in cost control, Earned Value Management, budgeting, scheduling/planning, and reporting on contract progress and performance.

  • Strong attention to detail with exceptional organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor communication for different audiences and mediums.
  • Ability to stimulate ideas and innovation, make insightful decisions, drive accountability and outcomes, and demonstrate sound governance.
