We are partnering with a state government client seeking an experienced Paralegal Assistant to join their Insurance and Risk Branch.
About the Role
As a Paralegal Assistant, you will provide critical support to legal staff within a dynamic legal team. This role involves assisting with legal documentation, discovery processes, trial preparation, and administrative tasks to ensure smooth operations and compliance with client standards. You will work closely with solicitors, barristers, expert witnesses, and other stakeholders, contributing to high-quality legal outcomes.
You will be delivering on:
- Filing and serving legal documents on solicitors, barristers, doctors, businesses, and other parties.
- Conducting searches across Court Registries, Tribunals, hospitals, and companies.
- Preparing and compiling briefs for experts, mediators, and Counsel.
- Assisting with discovery processes, including document inspection and preparation of lists.
- Supporting trial preparation and providing assistance during trials.
- Drafting routine correspondence and court documentation.
- Maintaining bring-up systems and other tools to support legal staff.
- Liaising with clients, Counsel, and legal practitioners as required.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Filing and serving legal documents and conducting information searches.
- Preparing briefs, indexes, and client files for legal proceedings.
- Supervising and assisting with document inspections and discovery processes.
- Drafting routine court documentation and correspondence.
- Arranging meetings, conferences, and interviews.
- Maintaining accurate time recording and assisting with billing processes.
- Indexing, redacting, and summarising client documents and medical records.
- Assisting in witness interviews and trial preparation.
- Complying with client service standards, including quality, timeliness, and billing targets.
- Working across various teams and branches as required.
About You
- Previous experience in a paralegal or legal support role within a government or insurance environment is highly desirable.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and record-keeping.
- Ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including legal practitioners and expert witnesses.
- Proficient in legal research and drafting routine legal documentation.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and meeting billing targets.
Benefits:
- $51.12 per hour + Super
