About the Company

We are working with a state government client who is seeking an experienced Principal Policy Officer to join their Procurement division.


About the Role

This role sits within the Queensland Government Procurement – Policy team and is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of whole-of-government procurement strategy, policy, and guidance. The successful candidate will contribute to the stewardship of the Queensland Government’s procurement approach, enabling agencies to achieve value-for-money outcomes while pursuing broader economic, ethical, environmental, and social objectives.

  • Developing and maintaining whole-of-government procurement strategy, policy, and guidance.
  • Undertaking research, analysis, and consultation to address complex policy issues and continuously improve procurement frameworks.
  • Providing expert advice and presentations to government and non-government stakeholders.
  • Reviewing and contributing to Cabinet submissions and strategic policy proposals, ensuring risks and unintended consequences are identified and addressed.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior staff, including performance and conduct management.
  • Supporting the development of whole-of-government guidance tools and templates.
  • Managing project documentation and contributing to strategic planning and reporting.

This position may manage a small number of direct reports and reports to the Manager, Strategy & Policy.


About You

  • Proven experience in policy development within a government or procurement context.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to address complex policy issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs on time.
  • Experience mentoring and managing junior staff.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to stakeholder engagement.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.


The Benefits

  • $129,089 - $138,273 per annum + Super
