Davidson is working with a state government client who plays a vital role in supporting Queenslanders and delivering essential services across the state. Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Finance Officer (AO7) to join their established and high-performing finance team.
About the Role
As Principal Finance Officer, you will lead complex government financial reporting, statutory obligations, and budget development activities. You will work closely with senior executives to prepare the FY27 budget for presentation to the Audit Committee in May, ensuring accuracy, compliance and meaningful financial insights to support informed decision-making.
This is an AO7 contract opportunity commencing late February/early March, offering hybrid work arrangements and a supportive, stable team environment.
- Lead financial performance monitoring across budgets and forecasts, providing clear insights into trends, risks and financial outcomes.
- Lead statutory accounting and financial management activities, including accountability for financial statements and ensuring compliance with government financial policies and reporting requirements.
- Deliver high-quality recurring and ad hoc financial reporting, including detailed analysis and commentary to support executive decision-making.
- Provide strategic advice on complex financial and accounting matters, offering practical solutions aligned to organisational priorities.
- Work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders to support financial planning, budget development and organisational initiatives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across financial processes, systems and reporting practices.
About You
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role within the State Government (essential).
- Strong experience in financial reporting and statutory accounting.
- Hands-on proficiency with FinanceOne / TechnologyOne (essential).
- Intermediate Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
- Experience using Power BI and Tridata (beneficial but not essential).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with executives and stakeholders and deliver high-quality work under tight timeframes.
