About the Company
We are working with a state government client who is seeking an experienced WHS & Rail Safety Advisor for their Sunshine Coast location (Beerburrum).
About the Role
The Rail Infrastructure Delivery Office (RIDO) is seeking a hands-on Project Senior WHS and Rail Safety Advisor to provide visible safety leadership and support across the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade project. You will be responsible for implementing and monitoring workplace health and safety and rail safety assurance processes across the project in accordance with legislative requirements and departmental frameworks.
Working closely with the Delivery Director, project team, and contracted entities, you will provide expert advice and practical support to ensure safety obligations are met and risks are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.
This role will not only focus on policy and reporting but will also be field based, actively engaging with contractors, supervisors, and workers on-site to drive best practice WHS and Rail Safety outcomes. You will ensure safety processes are lived and applied daily, verifying compliance in the field while contributing to continuous improvement of systems and culture.
Reporting to the Delivery Director, the Senior Advisor will split time between the project site and the office, supporting day-to-day delivery, contractor interface, and RIDO’s broader governance and assurance activities.
- On-Site Safety Leadership: Provide visible safety presence across worksites, conducting site walks, inspections, and observations to verify compliance with WHS and Rail Safety requirements.
- Contractor Engagement: Work closely with contractors and QR representatives in the field to ensure safe systems of work are in place, understood, and followed.
- Incident Response & Investigation: Lead or support immediate response to incidents, review investigations, and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
- Risk Management in Practice: Facilitate risk assessments and toolbox discussions, helping supervisors and teams identify hazards and implement controls.
- Safety Assurance: Carry out audits, inspections, and verification activities both in the field and at the management system level.
- Reporting & Governance: Translate field findings into clear reports for project leadership, ensuring site realities are accurately reflected in governance forums.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive lessons learned and improvement initiatives from field observations, inspections, and incident trends.
About you
- You’ll be a safety professional who is equally comfortable in the field and the office with the ability to engage workers on site while also preparing structured reports for leadership.
- Tertiary qualifications in Health & Safety, Business, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, Rail Safety National Law, Codes of Practice, and AS/ISO Standards.
- Demonstrated WHS management system experience, with practical application in the field.
- Experience working on large-scale rail (preferred) or infrastructure construction projects.
- Ability to influence supervisors, contractors, and managers through field-based engagement.
- Excellent communication skills — clear, practical, and adaptable to the audience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital safety reporting systems.
