About the Role
Our client is seeking a passionate and dynamic Program Officer (Environmental Education)
to join our Environment and Sustainability Branch.
This exciting role will deliver innovative, hands-on education experiences that inspire schools and the community to understand, protect and celebrate our natural environment.
You will play a leading role in planning and delivering the Youth Sustainability Summit (May 2026), coordinate environmental education programs at the Queensland Pioneer Environmental Education Centre (QPEEC), and strengthen partnerships with schools and community eco-stakeholders across the region
Key Responsibilities
- Lead coordination and logistics for the Youth Sustainability Summit, including program design, speaker engagement, and event delivery.
- Manage and grow partnerships with key environmental organisations, educators, and local schools to deliver impactful learning experiences.
- Provide day-to-day operational support to QPEEC and assist in the delivery of school tours and sustainability workshops.
- Develop, implement and evaluate environmental education initiatives that align with sustainability goals and environmental plan.
- Liaise with teachers and school leaders to promote programs, support bookings, and strengthen ongoing engagement with environmental offerings.
- Contribute to the development of teacher professional learning opportunities and new school engagement programs (e.g., SPARK, biodiversity, recycling, and sustainable living themes).
- Support communication, marketing and reporting activities to highlight outcomes of Council’s environmental education initiatives.
- Ensure all activities are delivered safely, inclusively and in accordance with Council’s policies, procedures and risk frameworks.
About You
You’re an engaging communicator and natural educator who thrives in outdoor learning and community settings. You bring creativity, initiative and a strong sense of environmental stewardship.
Essential skills and experience:
- Demonstrated experience delivering environmental education, sustainability, or community engagement programs.
- Proven ability to manage partnerships and coordinate multi-stakeholder projects and events.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines and deliver outcomes independently.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills across diverse audiences (students, teachers, and community).
- Current driver’s licence and Working with Children (Blue) Card (or ability to obtain).
Desirable:
- Experience in local government, education, or environmental not-for-profit sectors.
- First Aid certification
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Education, Sustainability, or related field.
