This is a hands-on engineering role where you will move data into OneLake, reverse engineer complex legacy SQL and ETL, rebuild transformation logic in dbt and establish the automation, testing and documentation needed for the platform to operate successfully beyond go-live.

About the Role

  • Profile legacy databases, stored procedures, jobs and downstream dependencies.
  • Migrate data into OneLake using Fabric Data Factory, mirroring and appropriate ingestion patterns.
  • Reverse engineer complex SQL and rebuild legacy ETL/stored procedures as modular dbt models.
  • Build dbt sources, staging models, business logic and reporting marts across Fabric.
  • Reconcile legacy and migrated datasets and implement automated data quality testing.
  • Establish Git-based CI/CD, deployment pipelines, monitoring and environment management.

About You

You will be an experienced Data Engineer who combines strong SQL and migration capability with genuine hands-on experience across Microsoft Fabric and dbt.

  • Proven delivery of legacy database migrations to modern cloud data platforms.
  • Strong hands-on dbt experience across models, tests, macros, snapshots and documentation.
  • Advanced SQL skills, particularly reverse engineering and modularising stored procedures.
  • Microsoft Fabric experience across OneLake, Warehouse/Lakehouse and Data Factory pipelines.
  • Strong dimensional modelling, reconciliation, data quality and layered warehouse experience.
  • Git and CI/CD experience using Azure DevOps or GitHub for automated data deployments.

The Benefits

  • Brisbane-based contract with hybrid arrangements.*
  • Hands-on ownership across Microsoft Fabric, dbt, migration, automation and data quality.
  • Opportunity to establish engineering practices that remain in place beyond the engagement.

*The first 2-3 weeks will likely have to be full-time onsite for onboarding
