Job Description

Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) is an independent statutory body responsible for regulating safety and health in the state's resources industries including coal mines, mineral mines and quarries, explosives and petroleum and gas.

The Mineral Mines & Quarries (MMQ) Inspectorate of RSHQ, is seeking to appoint exceptional mining industry leaders to fulfil the statutory roles of Regional Inspector and Senior Inspector of Mines under the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999.

Regional and Senior Inspectors play a critical leadership role to help ensure that the mineral mining and quarrying industry operates at an acceptable level of risk.

Regional Inspectors have responsibility for the Northern Region MMQ Inspectorate and you will manage a team of mining safety and health professionals and provide expert technical advice on a range of mining safety and health matters to industry, the government and the community.

Senior Inspectors provide the Regional Inspector of Mines, Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines and Chief Inspector of Mines with authoritative, professional and timely advice on issues related to mines and quarries in the region and statewide. They undertake inspections and audits relating to the operation of mines and quarries and where necessary take corrective action to improve safety and health in accordance with safety and health legislation.

A key requirement for both roles is to drive improvements in safety and health within the Queensland mining and quarrying industry through sound regulatory practices and risk based regulator principles.

Whilst these are investigatory and enforcement roles they also require experienced mining industry leaders who can represent RSHQ at all levels across the mining and quarrying industries, employers and employees, RSHQ and the public.

A Queensland First Class Certificate of Competency for an underground mine and a relevant degree from a tertiary institution are highly desirable.

An attractive remuneration package is offered along with first class training and development in a professional and collaborative environment.

This role is an SES2 classification with a Full time Contract, up to 5 years.
