Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) is an independent statutory body responsible for regulating safety and health in the state's resources industries including coal mines, mineral mines and quarries, explosives and petroleum and gas.
The Petroleum and Gas Inspectorate (P&G) of RSHQ, is seeking to appoint a Petroleum Engineer Wells to play an integral role in helping to ensure that the petroleum and gas industry operates at an acceptable level of risk.
Reporting to the Principal Inspector (Wells) you will ensure an effective regulatory framework in the Queensland petroleum and gas industry, with a focus on wells (unconventional and conventional petroleum resource development).
Based in either the Toowoomba or Brisbane office, you will provide expert technical advice on a range of petroleum and gas safety and health matters to industry, the government and the community.
You will undertake inspections and audits relating to petroleum and gas operations and where necessary take corrective action to improve safety and health in accordance with safety and health legislation. You will also assess applications for safety approvals, exemptions and tenure related matters, major project authorisations, petroleum facility licences and coordination arrangements.
A key requirement for this role is to drive improvements in safety and health within the Queensland petroleum and gas industry through sound regulatory practises and risk based regulator principles.
A relevant degree (Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering or similar) from a tertiary institution is mandatory. Your experience in upstream gas operations, on-shore well completion or production engineering (design, construction, integrity management and abandonment) will be beneficial for success in this role.
