Agriculture Victoria Services Pty Ltd. (AVS) was established by the Victorian Government to provide a commercial interface between its agricultural research and development activities and the private sector. AVS helps to improve the productivity and competitiveness of Victorian agriculture where a private sector route to market for research outputs is needed. The organisation is widely recognised for protecting and commercialising technologies generated by the Agriculture Victoria Research branch of the State's Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.
AVS is governed by a board comprising of six members including the Chair. AVS Board members are appointed by Cabinet via the Minister for Agriculture. The role of the Board is to provide leadership and strategic guidance for AVS and to oversee AVS' management implementation of AVS' strategy. This requires the Board to work as a high-functioning team and to meet on a regular basis. As such the Directors must ensure that they can devote sufficient time and commitment to properly perform their role and duties on behalf of AVS.
Key responsibilities of the Board include (but are not limited to):
- Establish the corporate strategy and plan, including the strategic direction and performance objectives to meet State Government needs and management of business risk
- Approve annual and long-term budgets and operational plans
- Monitor and assess performance in achieving strategy objectives
- Consider social, ethical and environmental impact of AVS' activities
The AVS Board has identified several key areas in which it requires demonstrable, deep and extensive skills, knowledge and experience across the three (3) vacant NED positions: agricultural science, research &/or industry development; intellectual property strategy and management; technology commercialisation, entrepreneurship &/or investment; and government stakeholder relations.
You may also bring prior NED experience or be seeking your first Board appointment. Understanding Aboriginal traditional ecological knowledge and values will also be highly regarded
AVS is committed to the equal representation of women on the AVS board, noting women now make up more than 50 per cent of new appointments to paid government related boards.
AVS is committed to ensuring that its board and committees reflect the rich diversity of the Victorian community.
AVS encourages applications from people of all ages, Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and from lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse and intersex people. We will provide adjustments to the recruitment process upon request.
