PrimeSafe is the Statutory Authority responsible for regulating the safety of red meat, poultry and seafood in Victoria with the primary objective of provision of safe, wholesome meat, poultry and seafood for all consumers. PrimeSafe is also responsible for the regulatory management of pet food. The organisation ensures compliance with Australian Standards for food safety and animal welfare, and uses a licensing and inspection system for food businesses to implement quality assurance programs to maintain food safety and consumer confidence. PrimeSafe is also responsible for the regulation of meat transport vehicles.
The Board is appointed by Cabinet via the Minister for Agriculture. The Board currently consists of nine members, including the Chairperson and has 2 Non-Executive Director terms expiring as of 30th September and will also look to appoint a further member as part of this process (total of three positions).
The role of the Board is to provide leadership and strategic guidance for PrimeSafe and to oversee management's implementation of PrimeSafe's strategy. The Board works as a team and meets on a regular basis. The Board must ensure that they can devote sufficient time and commitment to properly perform their role and duties on behalf of PrimeSafe.
All three roles will require the ability to demonstrate experience and knowledge in best practice regulation, corporate governance, finance and risk management.
Candidates should also have industry knowledge or experience in in food, meat, poultry or seafood production or processing, or in biosecurity, animal health and welfare.
