Job Description

Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) is an independent statutory body responsible for regulating safety and health in the state's resources industries including coal mines, mineral mines and quarries, explosives and petroleum and gas.

The Coal Inspectorate of RSHQ, is seeking to appoint exceptional mining industry leaders to fulfil the statutory roles of Inspector of Mines under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999.

Inspectors play a critical leadership role to help ensure that the coal mining industry operates at an acceptable level of risk.

The Inspectors of Mines have responsibility for the Mackay/Rockhampton Inspectorate and you will provide expert technical advice on a range of coal mining safety and health matters to industry, the government and the community.

The Inspectors provide the Regional Inspector of Mines, Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines and Chief Inspector of Mines with authoritative, professional and timely advice on issues related to coal mines in the region and statewide. They undertake inspections and audits relating to the operation of coal mines and where necessary take corrective action to improve safety and health in accordance with safety and health legislation.

A key requirement for these roles is to drive improvements in safety and health within the Queensland coal mining industry through sound regulatory practices and risk based regulator principles.

Whilst these are investigatory and enforcement roles they also require experienced coal mining industry leaders who can represent RSHQ at all levels across the coal mining industries, employers and employees, RSHQ and the public.

A Queensland First Class Certificate of Competency or an Underground Coal Mine Managers' Certificate of Competency recognised in Queensland, and a relevant degree from a tertiary institution are highly desirable.
