Job Description

This role is key in shaping the future offering of communications and engagement provided by the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV). Formed in 1879, the MAV is a membership association and the legislated peak body for Victoria's 79 councils.

Today, the MAV is an influential force behind a strong and strategically positioned local government sector. Their role is to represent and advocate the interests of local government, raise the sector's profile, and provide policy and strategic advice, capacity building programs and insurance and procurement services to local government. The MAV's motto is 'pro bono public' - for the public good.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Director, Policy and Advocacy this role will create and shape the future strategic direction of the communications team. Together with your small and highly capable team you will be responsible for all issues management and advocacy campaigns, publications, crisis and emergency management and the coordination and management of the MAV annual report. You will also be the main point of contact for all media inquiries and provide strategic media advice to key stakeholders, including the MAV president.

A highly regarded and experienced forward thinking communications professional, you will bring a proven background in both hands on and strategic communications. As a collaborative leader you are experienced in achieving great outcomes in a complex, time critical, dynamic and issues rich environment that is politically sensitive and rapidly changing. You have the natural ability to work with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally. Experience working in the broader public sector would be advantageous.

MAV is an equal opportunity employer committed to fairness, diversity and respect.
