Job Description

The National Transport Commission (NTC) is an independent advisory body. NTC provides quality, impartial advice and national land transport reform proposals to governments through the COAG Transport and Infrastructure Council. NTC contributes to the achievement of national reform priorities which are agreed by the Council. Reforms proposed by the NTC are focussed on improving transport productivity; environmental outcomes; regulatory efficiency and supporting a safe transport system.

Reporting to the Project Director Reform Maintenance, this role will provide a high level of support to the Directors and Senior Leaders at NTC across multiple projects. This support will include engagement with senior stakeholders and national policy associations on policy and legislation reforms and providing advice and executive support for the development and implementation of policy.

In this role, you will drive legislative development and policy projects to improve safety, land, transport and regulatory efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of land transport. As a senior resource at NTC, you may also assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of other projects in the NTC work program. You will be responsible for leading and assisting with law reform maintenance projects across different instruments, including the model Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail and the model Australian Road Rules.

Whilst a Manager level role, there are no staff responsibilities, enabling you to focus your attention on your strategic impact. You may be involved in mentoring and/or developing staff at NTC to deliver quality and timely outcomes.
You will bring to this role a reputation for being able to clearly explain the intent/rationale for policy positions to diverse stakeholders and be well respected for your stakeholder engagement skills. You have a track record of successfully managing multiple projects and providing leadership to staff to ensure delivery is achieved. With a strategic mind, you can identify creative solutions to complex problems and have the interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse range of people.

Given the focus of the role and NTC, an understanding of land transport policy and reforms would be advantageous. Being qualified with a Law degree and a strong understanding of the system of Government would also be desirable for this opportunity.

If you are seeking a role that researches and supports the management of multiple projects relating to national reforms for land transport policy, this could be the role for you.
