Moonee Valley City Council is seeking dynamic, contemporary people-leaders to support the vision of MV2040. Following an extensive organisational review, we are realigning how we work to deliver for our community. We are implementing a leadership model which serves the organisation and community from the perspectives of three key functions: Think, Do and Enable. The grouping of roles and responsibilities in the three functional areas will ensure clear decision-making lines, reduced silos and enhanced organisational performance to improve community outcomes.
Manager Legal and Governance
- Responsible for governance and legal support over Council's activities and ensuring Councillors are supported in their roles.
Reporting to the newly appointed CEO, you will form a critical part of the senior leadership team and hold a dual focus; whole of organisational leadership and setting a clear direction for the division to continue delivering on Council's vision and plans. This is an outstanding opportunity to work closely with an ambitious and driven CEO to provide the Council with the best quality advice to help it make optimal decisions and make a real difference to the community.
The Manager Legal and Governance will play an integral role in ensuring Councillors are properly supported in their roles and high standards of governance are maintained in Council processes. Providing effective leadership and management to Council's Councillor Support and Governance Processes business units, you will ensure compliance with relevant legislation and proactive management of operational risks. The Manager Legal and Governance will work with stakeholders across the organisation to provide timely, accurate and relevant reports on both quantitative and qualitative results and progress; ensuring business units deliver tangible outcomes to the community in line with MV2040 objectives and Annual Plan Key Performance Indicators. This role will attend Council and senior management meetings to provide professional advice and will also represent Council at public and international forums as required.
Key to your success in this positon is the strong senior governance and leadership experience you have gained, ideally in local government or an aligned public sector environment. With relevant tertiary qualifications and proven experience, you will be a key player in ensuring MVCC operates in line with best practice. With an ability to provide high quality advice and work collaboratively with stakeholders of all levels, you will leverage your strong communication and interpersonal skills to ensure governance and compliance is understood by Councillors and Officers, and embedded across the organisation more broadly. As a senior representative of MVCC, you will demonstrate strong leadership skills and an ability to influence and ensure sound decision making practices. With a passion for quality service delivery to the community, you will demonstrate strong alignment to the values of MVCC and an unwavering commitment to governance and best practice.
