The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is tasked with ensuring that Victoria has the right conditions to enable economic growth, while delivering livable, inclusive and sustainable communities. They bring together planning, local government and infrastructure, environment, climate change, energy and water functions, to ensure an integrated approach to the development of long term State and regional strategies that build on social, environmental and economic opportunities to provide for future population growth and change.
As Director, Intergovernmental you will be part of the Water and Catchments Group (WCG) who is responsible for effectively managing Victoria's water resources to meet future urban, rural and environmental needs and works in partnership with stakeholders including water corporations and catchment management authorities.
Your primary focus will be leading the provision of high-level strategic analysis and advice on interjurisdictional issues relating to water to the Minister, Secretary and the Departmental Executive. In conjunction with your team, you will provide high-level, strategic policy oversight of Victoria's other intergovernmental water interests through applying a detailed, operational understanding of the Murray-Darling Basin Agreement, Murray Darling Basin Plan, COAG's National Water Initiative and its associated National Water Reform Work Program and the Snowy Water Agreement.
As the Division's Director, you will be specifically responsible for ensuring the delivery of strategic foresight and authoritative policy and issue risk assessment in the provision of advice on intergovernmental water policy issues to the Minister and DELWP Senior Executive.
You are a highly regarded leader and renowned in the industry for your knowledge and expertise in Water and Catchments. You have developed your career within a complex, sensitive and ever changing environment. Importantly you have the natural ability to influence, engage and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders. A strong appreciation of governance and performance oversight of the water sector in Victoria and other intergovernmental water interests will be highly regarded. Your political acumen, interpersonal skills and previous experience building trust and credibility with Ministers' offices and other government agencies will ensure your success.
