To ensure the city continues to meet the demands of a growing population, the City of Melbourne has established a new Community Development branch to better support community resilience and to embed organisation-wide conditions for a just, inclusive and sustainable society. This branch will support Melbourne's diverse communities and neighbourhoods to engage, participate and shape their own city.
The Director Community Development and their branch will lead an organisation-wide transformation to apply a community development lens to all City of Melbourne planning, service delivery and activities. The branch will lead a new approach to community development through a neighbourhood or precinct lens that will adopt and enhance best practice from other global cities. It will work to embed a new and ambitious community development agenda at City of Melbourne and build organisational capacity to connect with community needs. This new team will be structured to enable place-based community connection as well as have the expertise and capability to tackle city-wide issues and projects.
To be successful in this role, the City of Melbourne is seeking a contemporary, inspirational and dynamic leader with expertise in the strategic development and implementation of community development programs within large complex, customer-focused organisations. Politically astute, you demonstrate high levels of emotional intelligence and have a strong track record in leading transformative change with a unique ability to reach the hearts and minds through cultural change. You are highly regarded for your ability to develop inspiring and high performing teams and for your ability to quickly build trust with and to maintain effective, mutually beneficial, stakeholder relationships.
