Job Description

The City of Boroondara is widely regarded as one of the leading Councils across Victoria. Council has invested significantly in innovation and technology improvements in recent years in order to provide the community with an even greater customer experience and opportunity for engagement. Home to some of the state's best parks, Council is committed to delivering exceptional park and open space amenity, through the pursuit of excellence in its operational maintenance.

Working closely with the Senior Coordinator Open Space and leading a cohesive and high performance team, you will take charge of implementing and executing City of Boroondara's recently adopted Tree Strategy. With a particular focus on preserving the character of the neighborhoods of Boroondara, this role will be pivotal in addressing the ageing tree population challenge and engaging with the local community to educate, inform and communicate the short and longer term activity related to trees. Driving and managing the maintenance program with an eye on risk management at all times, the Coordinator Trees will ensure that the work delivered meets contractual obligations and achieves the desired outcomes for the community. Finally, the new leader will ensure the team is empowered and engaged and continues to work at a high level of performance whilst also ensuring their growth and development as individuals and as a unit.

Whilst an understanding of horticulture, aboriculture or landscape architecture is beneficial, this role requires a strategic leader with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills. You will have had experience of managing the complexity of trees in an inner urban environment.
Possessing a strong reputation as an excellent leader of people, you will thrive on working autonomously and be able to problem solve your way through complex customer challenges. With Boroondara being an innovative culture and workplace, you will bring a continuous improvement mindset and be willing to embrace risk to achieve better outcomes.
