The Commissioner for Resources Safety and Health is an independent office under the Resources Safety and Health Act 2020, responsible for monitoring and reviewing the performance of Resources Safety and Health Queensland's functions.
The role of Commissioner for Resources Safety and Health will advise the Minister on matters relating to the safety and health of workers in Queensland's resources industry, and effectively chair multiple key advisory committees to enable discussion and action to address safety and health issues across the resources sector. The Commissioner will be required to monitor and review the operations of RSHQ including the performance of the Chief Executive.
The role will actively engage with representatives across the resources sector to promote and protect the safety and health of persons who may be affected by the operations of the resources sector.
The Commissioner must possess at least a professional qualification relevant to the resources industry, accompanied by professional/operational leadership experience in the management of safety and health in the resources sector. High order negotiation skills and demonstrated capacity to collaboratively work through issues and provide the government with options for resolution will be required.
