- Strengthen ESV's role as a regulator
Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is Victoria's independent energy safety regulator, responsible for ensuring the safety of the Victorian community through best practice and proactive regulation of the electricity and gas industries - including the licensing of electricians and also maintaining public and industry awareness on electrical and gas safety. In a changing environment with unprecedented investment into the sector, ESV has to remain a safety first, proactive regulator that will hold industry to account and become more consistent in its use of statutory powers. To do so Government has approved a series of amendments to the Energy Safety Victoria Act 2005, transitioning the organisation to a Commission structure led by a three-person Commission as of 1 January 2021.
Reporting to the Chair of the Commission, ESV is seeking a visionary CEO to provide strategic leadership to the organisation. As a newly created role in a Commission led setting, the role will engage the team in resetting the vision, values and structure to set a path forward to becoming a modern, safety first, proactive and trusted regulator. Key to this success will be shifting the enforcement and regulatory practice within the operations to be best practice whilst also maintaining the role as a technical leader. A key stakeholder engagement role, you will build rapport and confidence with the diverse range of parties from the government representatives through to operators and bring about the transformation required to increased community trust.
With an appreciation of the public sector ideally within regulation, you have proven executive experience leading large reform agendas in complex environments. As a values driven leader, you will be known for your collaborative approach and genuine commitment to developing staff and leading high performing teams. You bring strong strategic thinking and a collaborative approach to engaging with a diverse and broad range of stakeholders. You will demonstrate empathy, integrity and fairness through your leadership style, and will bring a results-focused approach, including driving accountability throughout the organisation.
