The Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) branch in Agriculture Victoria includes Biosecurity Services and Agriculture Services and Regions. This branch designs and delivers services, provides technical advice and influences policy to support the agriculture sector to achieve sustainable growth while managing risks and minimising adverse impacts to the economy, environment and public health and safety. Given the size and scale of this operation, two Executive Director roles jointly lead this branch. The two Executive Directors are expected to work closely together to plan and deliver biosecurity and agriculture services as an integrated program of work and interoperability to ensure consistency and collaboration in operations, in particular when handling emergency management situations.
In this role you will lead the highly capable Biosecurity Services team of 280 qualified technical staff located across Victoria and have a focus on maintaining and improving access to domestic and international markets for Victorian products.
You will implement major investments and continuously improve the biosecurity service delivery by exploring partnership and different approaches to enhance the service. Taking the lead on biosecurity responses you work will closely with key stakeholders and internal experts including the Chief Veterinary Officer and Chief Plant Health Officer to ensure a considered approach is taken.
Finally, you will oversee compliance activities with legislative responsibilities associated with plant and animal pests and diseases, animal welfare, agricultural and veterinary chemical use and invasive species management.
You will have a demonstrated track record of values-based leadership including coaching and mentoring, noting Agriculture Victoria’s key values of accountability, integrity, responsiveness and respect. You will build relationships, and communicate effectively, with a diverse range of stakeholders in government and across the agriculture sector.
As a leader in the biosecurity field you will bring a passion and interest in leading reform which ultimately benefits the health and wellbeing of Australians and our economy. Highly regarded for your stakeholder management skills and ability to communicate clearly, you have proven experience interacting with senior stakeholders and also have credibility in the field with technical staff, industry bodies, farmers and the general public. You enjoy the challenges of leading a large team of staff and have demonstrated that you can engage and inspire people to work towards a common goal.
