Job Description

The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training is seeking applications for an experienced, results-driven and collaboration executive leader to join the department as the Deputy Director-General, Investment.

The Department has a key focus on delivering and supporting a range of strategies, programs and grants to encourage and drive employment outcomes – whether it’s for someone’s first job, next job, or their own job.  The Department plays a key role in supporting the Government’s priority to create jobs in a strong economy.  

About the role:

Reporting to the Director-General, you will be a pivotal member of the Department’s executive leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability and building collaborative partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.  You will manage strategic and significant key stakeholders in the VET and training sector including TAFE Queensland, supporting the delivery of key skilling outcomes across Queensland. You will also be leading the improvement and development of strategic training infrastructure that aims to benefit a range of employment and small business outcomes across Queensland. Through your team, you will be responsible for the investment of almost $1B worth of funding via grants across employment, small business and training programs.

You will be a highly effective leader with a focus on partnering across and Department to build the capacity and capability of your teams, fostering day-to-day innovation in both the approach to investment and the outcomes achieved. You will be astute at building and managing relationships, partnering with Government and industry partners to support employment outcomes.

You will demonstrate an extensive track record of success in an executive leadership capacity in a complex environment with a focus on improving economic outcomes for, and with, a variety of industry and stakeholder groups. You will have a leadership style which is centred on developing and growing those around you every day and delivering economic outcomes through your team.
