The role
The role will play a key role in developing and implementing proactive communication and marketing campaigns and strategies for major projects, services, initiatives and events for the City of Ballarat and Council. The position will report to the Manager Communications and Marketing and will form part of the Communications and Marketing Team, and Innovation and Organisational Improvement division.
 
This position will liaise with the CEO, Mayor, Councillors, Directors, Managers and staff; and will play a key role in ensuring the City of Ballarat and Council are communicated and marketed to the media, the community and other stakeholders in a positive customer‐oriented light. The role will focus on developing media strategy and response, public relations, corporate communications and internal communications to ensure the effective delivery of all communications campaigns and plans.
 
About you
The City of Ballarat is seeking a dynamic, innovative and energetic Coordinator Communications with experience in media, communications or public relations coupled with demonstrated successes in developing and implementing media, internal and external communications, and PR strategies and campaigns via both traditional and digital/social media. To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement capabilities with the confidence to navigate complex relationships and to interact with the Mayor, Councillors, various levels of the organisation and with key external stakeholders. Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Media or Journalism are expected coupled with experience working within a government department, media or similar organisation that has required political sensitivity.
