Job Description

Wollondilly Shire Council is one of New South Wales fastest growing councils. With Wilton New Town set to be the eighth largest town in New South Wales and the new Badgery’s Creek airport only 12km’s away, growth is key to the region’s future. As Chief Financial Officer you will play a crucial role in guiding this growth in what will be a career defining role.

Located in a unique and enviable geographical position - only 1.5 hours’ drive from Sydney CBD, 45 minutes’ drive from Liverpool and 45 minutes from Wollongong and the beaches of the South Coast – the Chief Financial Officer role offers all the benefits of lifestyle living but with all the professional challenges of a rapidly growing peri-urban Council.

Part of the Western Sydney City Deal, the area will see a critical amount of Government investment rolled out for transport, jobs and infrastructure across Western and Southwest Sydney. In this role you will directly influence and lead the organisation in the promotion and delivery of good financial management, through this exciting period of change and growth.

As would be expected in such a high-profile leadership position, you will bring with you the ability to inspire your teams, together with a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

Championing and demonstrating the five core values of council will be essential:

Integrity – We act with honesty, always doing the right thing
Collaboration – We openly share and partner with others to deliver results
Accountability – We own our work and take responsibility for our actions and results
Respect – We show mutual consideration for others and acknowledge our differences
Embrace Innovation – We encourage new ideas, welcome change and continuously improve

A key responsibility will be that of performing the functions and responsibilities of the Responsible Accounting Officer as defined in the NSW Local Government (General) Regulation 2005. Additionally, you will be required to develop and consistently review and refine the long-term financial strategy and annual budgeting process in order to ensure its delivery as required under the Local Government Act and Regulations.

As would be expected of such a role, relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting or business are essential as is at least five years’ experience in leadership and management. Whilst not essential, prior experience in a financial management position within Local Government would be looked upon favourably as would CPA accreditation.

An attractive remuneration package commensurate with the location and role is offered.
