The Melbourne Zoo, the oldest Zoo in Australia, is located in the beautiful leafy Parkville area and welcomes approximately 1.3 million visitors per year.
As the Senior Manager Animal Care and Conservation, you will deliver a professional species plan and management program to achieve the high standards of animal care and conservation in line with Zoos Victoria’s vision and values. High quality welfare standards for all animals in Melbourne Zoo’s care will be achieved through holistic consideration of health, husbandry, environmental and behavioural requirements for animals.
In addition to overseeing the care of the animals, you will bring new thinking to delivering profound wildlife experiences through effective engagement with the Life Sciences team and Visitor Engagement teams to showcase care and conservation.
Finally, you will contribute to the development of new exhibits, conservation projects and education programs to increase the public understanding and connection to wildlife and wildlife conservation.

To be successful in this role you will have a sound understanding of the zoo industry, and the role of zoos in delivering ambitious conservation outcomes. You will have an understanding of animal welfare and management, visitor experience, horticulture, conservation and education for conservation. You have extensive operational leadership experience and are able to develop a high performance and positive culture that embraces change and opportunities. You must have established program and project management skills and be able to oversee complex project deliver and ensure outcomes are achieved through strong relationships across functions.
