Job Description

  • Opportunity to Truly Shape the Future of the Energy Sector
  • High Profile Executive Opportunity
  • Executive Officer (EO2) Salary Package
The Organisation

The Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP) is tasked with ensuring that Victoria has the right conditions to enable economic growth, while delivering liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities. Bringing together planning, local government and infrastructure, environment, climate change, energy and water functions, the organisation ensures an integrated approach to the development of long-term State and regional strategies that build on social, environmental and economic opportunities to provide for future population growth and change. The organisation is renowned for its confident leadership and positive culture, investing heavily in their people and are proud of the diversity of their workforce.

The Energy Group

DELWP is working with the energy sector and the Victorian community to develop a secure and sustainable energy future for Victoria. Delivering on Victorian Government commitments, DELWP is striving for all Victorians to be able to access energy that is affordable, reliable and more sustainable. To ensure Victoria is at the forefront of the Energy sector’s significant transformation, DELWP has formed a dedicated Energy Group, led by Anthea Harris, Deputy Secretary, Energy. The Group’s primary responsibility is to support current and future energy projects, programs and reforms. The Group consists of four divisions working collaboratively to enable the strategic work required to take place and set the Department up to undertake major energy transformations.

The Role
Reporting to the Deputy Secretary, this newly created role will shape the strategic direction of the Group, leading development of major strategic plans affecting the future shape of the energy industry. Ultimately the role will conduct analysis and formulate strategies to progress the transformation of the sector and to manage attendant risks. This will include development of a Victorian Energy Transition Plan, Renewable Energy Roadmap and Distributed Energy Resources Plan, to name a few. In doing so you will lead a small division, supported by two Directors. The role requires strong collaboration across the Energy Group, other areas of DELWP, and across the Victorian Government and with industry.

The Ideal Profile
To be successful, you will have proven experience in the energy and / or public sectors as well as have a strong understanding of the market, and regulatory and risk frameworks across the sector.  You are well regarded for your thought leadership and the energetic and passionate approach you bring to your work. You are a truly collaborative leader. Your strong project management and communication skills, and your ability to work strategically across both the Department and within the complex stakeholder environment are considered key strengths. You are the type of person who can develop new and innovative initiatives to ensure your team is delivering service excellence and high-level outcomes for the Victorian community.

The Application Process

If you are looking for a significant leadership role within the Victorian Public Service and are wanting to have a lasting impact for the community, look no further. Join an organisation that is renowned for having great flexibility and a workplace culture that is second to none.
