Your opportunityIn the role of Senior Advisor (Financial Governance & Capability) you will:
  • Contribute to the management of Departmental corporate governance by assisting with developing and maintaining appropriate practices and procedures for financial delegations, assurance activtiies and related processes.
  • Have sound knowledge of financial management legislation, primarily Financial Accountability Act 2009, the Financial and Performance Management Standard 2009 and relevant accounting standards.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective administration of the Department’s financial governance responsibilities by assisting to develop and implement appropriate systems, strategies, policies and procedures, ensuring the integrity of data used.
  • Provide expert analysis, advice and high quality customer service regarding all areas of financial management legislation as it relates to the Department’s operations.
  • Research and prepare expert advice and input into the research, analysis and drafting of policies and into ministerial correspondence and briefings for senior management
  • Lead financial assurance reviews and workshops.
  • Identify financial training needs and develop and deliver training for Departmental staff as necessary.
  • Proactively monitor developments and initiatives impacting on financial administration functions and develop contemporary solutions using a relationship networking approach.
  • Assist in the management of the financial aspects of the annual review of fees and charges and quarterly gifts & benefits register.
  • Develop and maintain sound relationships with key stakeholders and clients, both internal and external to Transport and Main Roads, to facilitate effective discharge of financial governance accountabilities.
Accountabilities include:
  • Maintain personal expertise in financial administration law and its application in meeting corporate objectives in a large diverse organization.
  • Development and delivery of financial management training in accordance with the client needs and unit’s business priorities.
  • Ensuring that financial management policies and procedures are in accordance with prescribed financial management legislation and standards.
This role reports to the Principal Advisor (Financial Governance & Capability).Is this role for you?Desirable requirements:
  • A degree or equivalent in accounting, commerce or business administration would be highly regarded.
  • Experience in the design, development and delivery of training in a contemporary adult learning environment would also be highly regarded.

  • Government experience is preferred but not neccessary
